水溶的炔烃活性酯试剂适合为多种生物分子比如蛋白和多肽连接炔烃基团。氨基-DNA及其他氨基亦适用。因为天然蛋白并不包含炔烃，但通常包含氨基（赖氨酸），该试剂就相当于“转换器”将天然氨基分子转为炔烃。
使用该试剂可以使所有蛋白适合点击化学。
该试剂是STP （sulfotetrafluorophenyl）酯。STP酯类似NHS酯，但拥有更强的亲水性和水溶性。在不需要有机共溶剂单纯的水溶液中也能很好的进行标记反应，是对蛋白进行修饰的*好选择。
